Ecology Class - Vernal Pools - Night Hike
Saturday, April 27, 2024 - 8:00-10:00pm | Rogue River State Game Area
Spring is here and that means it’s time to explore the bounty of life that can be found inside a vernal pool! In this class we’ll discuss what a vernal pool is, how they are formed, and discuss their role in the story of the landscape around them. We’ll also spend some time surveying a series of pools to discover all of the various forms of life within them. This class will be held at night when salamanders, frogs, and other nocturnal species are the most active. Be sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp to help you navigate the woods at night, and some boots that you don’t mind getting a bit muddy.
NOTE: This class will be held rain or shine since most of the species found in a vernal pool are more active during the rain - dress accordingly.
I’ll send you an email reminder 2 weeks prior to the event with the meeting location and any additional details that you’ll need to know in order to prepare for the event. This tour is limited to 25 participants.
